HOW TO GET TO KOH SAMUI

The remoteness of Koh Samui from Bangkok, which is the main hub for the majority of international flights, makes the island not easily accessible for the mass tourism and therefore helps to keep the original charm and attractiveness of Koh Samui for independent and package tourists who are more demanding to the quality of their holidays.

How to get to the paradise island from the capital of Thailand? There is a certain number of ways of getting from Bangkok to Koh Samui but only one assumes the greatest comfort and convenience - a direct flight from Bangkok to Koh Samui with Bangkok Airways, a company which also owns the Koh Samui boutique airport (one of the most beautiful airports in the world).

The tickets for a direct flight from Bangkok to Koh Samui are not cheap, but there is a way to save a little bit. Cheap airline tickets to Koh Samui can be bought at the sale announced by the airline once or twice a year. Within one flight there are several tariffs - choose the cheapest one (the leftmost column). Also cheaper rates apply at the earliest and the latest flights from Bangkok to Koh Samui.

Direct flights from Bangkok to Koh Samui with Bangkok Airways now take just over an hour. Departure is from Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK). This is the one and only airport that operates international flights to Thailand from abroad. Most of the low cost airlines have recently been transferred to the second airport of the capital of Thailand - Don Muang (DMK).

There are other options of having a flight from Bangkok to Koh Samui (such as taking a plane to the mainland and then using a ferry for the final part of the trip) which can be found in the "Flights to Koh Samui" section on our website. How else can I get from Bangkok to Koh Samui?

There are the following low cost options: by bus and by train. Of course, in the final part of any of these options there will be a ferry which will take you to Koh Samui from the mainland.

The trains in Thailand are old but quite comfortable. If you want to get from Bangkok to Samui by train it is best to buy the ticket in advance. Or you can buy it directly at the railway station - tickets are always available, except during major holidays when it is recommended to book it in advance. The trains from Bangkok to Samui usually depart in the evening.

All about the ferries to Koh Samui can be found it the corresponding article. There are two carriers - Seatran and Raja Ferry. Each ferry can accommodate more than 300 passengers at a time, onboard there are also buses from Bangkok, transport trucks, as well as private auto and moto transport. Cars and motorbikes can be transported to Koh Samui only on one of these ferries. By the way if you want to take a car or a motorbike to Koh Phangan there is only one way to do it - from Donsak pier and only with Raja Ferry.

High-speed catamarans by Lomprayah can get you from the mainland to Koh Samui, Koh Tao and Koh Phangan. Catamarans by Songserm are also there to take tourists to Samui, Phangan and Tao, and are also included in the joint tickets from Bangkok to Koh Samui..

It is also possible to get from Bangkok to Samui by a high-speed catamaran from Lomprayah. First of all you will have to take a bus to Chumphon and then change it for the boat to the island of Koh Samui, with stops at Koh Tao and Koh Phangan. Lomprayah speed boats make stops at Maenam Beach in the northern part of Koh Samui.

As you can see you can use all sorts of transport (airplane, helicopter, bus, train, ferry), and get from Bangkok to Samui within any time limit. The trip might be very cheap, but will take quite some time, or you can get there within an hour by a plane, though it won't be a budget trip.
