It is correct to call that beach Bang Rak. Though it is called Big Buddha beach because of the most fascinating religious sightseeing on the island - a temple and monument of Big Buddha.

It is located on the north-east of the island in the same bay as Bophut but more to the eastern side. A small cape divides these two beaches.

If you take right turn on the crossroad at the Fisherman's village and drive all the way through the main road you will see Bophut beach first and shortly after there will be Bang Rak.

Big Buddha statue
which is situated on the hill of a small island will be visible almost from everywhere as you drive to Bang Rak. This statue is 12 meters high and it was built here more than 30 years ago.

You can buy lots of souvenirs at the territory of the monument made of silver, jewels, leather. You can even buy a CD with music that usually is played here.

Not far from that place you will find a big fish market. Everything you buy there can be cooked in any of the local café the way you want or they can offer you other variants you might find tasty.

The biggest part of the beach appears to be not suitable for swimming as it is very shallow and there are lots of yachts placed along the bank.

There is a fast growing number of SPA in here and houses for rent for quite reasonable prices.

You may find this place suitable for a quiet and peaceful rest. And you can always get to the other beaches from here if you would want a little more action.

There is one kilometer from the center of Big Buddha beach to the airport and five kilometers to the Chaweng beach. You can easily get to the Fisherman's village from here.
