Chaweng

Chaweng beach, or as it is usually called Big or Central Chaweng is located on the Samui island's east coast.  That is the most popular beach with perfect fine sand which looks more like powder.

There is a coral reef in the northern part which is the reason of shallow water here. That is why the beach is not quite suitable for swimming. That it also the reason why there are not so much tourists there.

Central and Southern parts are not as shallow and are quite suitable for swimming. Though you won't be able to swim comfortably during the low tides, you will have to take a few steps away from the coast to find a deep enough place to swim.

Water is clear and transparent; there are no rocks at the bottom. Sometimes in some parts the bottom might become a little bit slimy but in general the sand is very soft and pleasant.

There are plenty of beach beds at the shore but they are only for the hotel guests.

The water in Chaweng is mostly calm. Though during November till January there are big waves due to the winds blowing in that period.

Chaweng can offer you many water attractions such as aqua bikes, kayaks, catamarans all year round. A regatta takes place here every year during summer time.

By the way it is here in Centara hotel an annual regatta of Koh Samui takes place.

The beach line consists of a continuous stripe of perfectly fine white sand. It is wide and smooth with well-developed infrastructure. The beach length is 6 km long and is divided into three parts - Chaweng Yai, Chaweng and Chaweng Noi.

Each of these parts has its own unique features. That is the reason these beaches are still #1 among all kinds of tourists.

Chaweng has lots of places of interest. Such as Buddhists temple Wat Chaweng is located along the ring road approximately in the central part of Chaweng. Or pagoda Kho Hua Jook. It is situated on the 90 meters hill from which you will have magnificent view on the Chaweng lake. You will also see a runway of Samui airport, Big Buddha statue, Koh Phangan and other small islands around Samui. And let alone those sunsets, they are really astonishing here.

There is a runway on the northern end of the beach so it goes without saying that the place is rather noisy. Luckily there are no planes during night time.

Speaking about shops there is a good computer shop in Chaweng, it is located between Makro and Tesco Lotus. It is called Banana IT. There is another one in Lamai.

If you take a turn to the airport right after the Bandon Hospital you will see a good Golf club on the left side from the road. A little further there will be the Monkey Theater.

There is a Shooting Range opposite the entrance to Macro for those who would like to practice their shooting.  If you are a boxing fan you are not going to miss Muai Thai fighting competitions which take place almost every week on one of the two stadiums.

There are plenty of restaurants and bars. Some are with girls waiting for some lonely farangs. If you miss European food there are KFC, Burger King, Pizza Hut и McDonald's, Starbucks (near Big C).

A few cabaret shows with transvestites are also located in Chaweng. A bowling center, children playrooms and a cinema in Tesco, small shops with different kinds of stuff, all that you'll find in Chaweng.

Chaweng is recommended to those who like to party all night long and those who don't care about crowds of tourists and beach traders. To those who are not annoyed by the rattle of passing vehicles and prices somewhat higher than usual.
