I have four regular customer's cards from local supermarkets.
In order to get those cards all you need to do is fill in a questionnaire.
Those who came for a short holiday might not need it, but those living here for a long time might find it useful.
Here is how those cards work.

Tesco: With every purchase the cashier checks the code from your card. During three months the card accumulates scores, which are then converted into Thai baht, and by the end of the three months you receive to your email address specified in the application form you get a coupon for a discount. Amount of the discount depends on the total amount of your purchases.

Big C: With every purchase more than 500 baht along with a check you get a coupon for 5 baht discount. It can be used immediately in the food court, or the coupon can be submitted along with the money when paying next time. The coupon expires within 1 month.
The second coupon that goes with the check is the invitation to visit fast food places located on the first floor of the shopping complex. It promises some sort of discount, although on the coupon you can only see the list the names of such eateries written in Thai, and nothing is said about the discount.

Also for the cardholders for different product groups there are regularly held promotions with gifts. So having such a card make sure to come up at the exit to the administrator desk and check if you have won any gifts.

Big C also often holds promotions (issuing stickers that need to be collected, by analogy with the stickers at 7-eleven, and then one can exchange them to various gifts) and lotteries where the tickets are printed with the check (you have to tear off a ticket from the check, write your phone number and drop it in a box for the drawing).

Home Pro: For a one-time purchase of more than 5,000 baht you can get a membership card of the Home Pro network. Purchase can be made in the shop at Chaweng and online as well. When making a purchase online you should claim the card and get it in person at the store at the same day of purchase on the website. The next day this opportunity will be expired . What this card gives its owner is written here. Also in the store there are often held promotions and sales. In their online store the range of products is much wider, and the free shipping to Koh Samui takes about 7 days. However, in general, their prices on the popular appliances are slightly higher than those in Big C and Tesco .

Makro: This card is needed primarily to those who purchase products for business. In order to receive a card you will be asked to provide documents to the company , and you will be given a card with which there can be printed an invoice with all the taxes.
If you do not have a company here and you will make purchases for personal use only it is sufficient to present a passport or a driving license and fill out a form indicating the local mailing address ( where all the advertising newspapers with special offers and sales will be sent.)
The next day you will be given a plastic card that does not give you any special bonuses, but after receiving one you will not need to carry a "temporary buyer’s card " to scan purchases at the checkout.
Please pay attention thet in contrast to Tesco and Big C, Macro can only accept cash (outside in front of the store there are several ATMs ).

The Central Festival shopping center, which has opened on Koh Samui in late March 2014, also has its own membership cards, which you can use to get a 5% discount. Discount is not available in all stores and only in those that are listed on the map. These spots are the Central Festival store itself, TOPs supermarket, computer and household appliances shop Power Buy, SuperSports sporting goods store , books and music store B2S and some other.

Each time you are buying something you get points. The current number of points can be seen on the checks (not always), or you can ask in the customer service on the second floor of Central Festival, where these points will be exchanged for cash coupons. There are also booklets explaining the procedure. Exchange rate is around 800 points for 100 baht coupon. You can pay these quasi-money at the same stores Central Festival.

For more information about the cards visit the website the-1-card.com. There you can issue such cards.
