Maenam beach is located on the North of the Samui island. It has really wonderful views of Koh Phangan - the island where Fool Moon Party takes place every month.

Sunrise is best enjoyed on the western side of the beach starting from Laem Na Lam cape near the Lomprayah pier at the Santiburi Resort.

The sand is rather coarse, of a saturated yellow color. Water is shallow at the banks but gets deeper with every step. Thanks to that the beach is perfectly suitable for swimming even during low tides.

Length of the beach is about 5 km. The beach line is about 5-7 meters wide. It is crossed by three small rivers flowing from the hills.

The first river goes through the Santiburi Resort territory, the second one - near Hutcha Resort. And the third one which you can cross only by the bridge is flowing near the old bungalows.

Water in Maenam is rarely clear mostly because of the seaweed, three rivers mentioned above and the drain system that goes to the sea from the crossroads near the Florist Resort.

There used to be a few docking stations for the tourist boats. Now that they are gone the water became more clear and transparent.

Maenam beach district has the biggest number of locals after Nathon. While living here you will plunge into local lifestyle. Early in the morning you will be awakened by psalms from the Buddhist temples nearby. Late at night you may hear dogs barking at each other's, singing of birds, cicadas and the sounds of falling coconuts.

Though a big number of Europeans, living for a long time on the island, prefer settling here. This place is suitable for a long stay and tranquil rest much more than noisy Chaweng or unpopulated Taling Ngam. There is a very big choice of houses for rent within a wide price range.

Even though the beach line is built up with hotels you won't find here annoying sellers only those selling different kinds of food for the local construction workers.

If you take a walk deeper into the Maenam district you will see locals doing their usual everyday stuff basically saying living their lives.

In the central part of Maenam you will find a morning market. If you wake up early in the morning and go there before 8 o'clock you'll find some really unusual vegetables and seafood.

Apart from the morning market there is also another one opening at noon. It is smaller than the first one but has all the same variety of products.

There is a "moving market" in Maenam which takes place once a week on the crossroads with traffic light. A big variety of clothes is presented there, most of which you won't find in local supermarkets.

If you like pancakes you won't miss Mr. Pancaker Man, famous all over Maenam. His bakery is located strictly opposite to Maenam Resort and Shangrilah Bungalow. You can taste the most delicious pancakes right there or you can take some home. His working day starts at 16-00.

Those who value Thai food are recommended to visit KAI café located on the intersection of the ring road with Soi 5 and don't forget to drop in to Uncle Noi Restaurants opposite the Chollada Place

If you begin missing European food, Tommy Swiss restaurant is a good choice. It is situated on the road leading to the sea at the one and only crossroads in Maenam. On the opposite side you will find a pizzeria «SAN REMO lounge».

On the same road if you take a right turn you will see a Chinese Temple. At Chinese New Year's Eve people all over the island are gathering here to celebrate and party.

To sum up everything we would recommend Maenam beach to those who wants calm, peaceful holidays without getting to far away from the "civilization".
